1:1 Coaching

Dismantling Systemic Oppression and providing you with skills to release body shame and navigate negative body image thoughts — Train with me!

You may already know that my intersectional identity complicated my ability to love myself whole and that Running helped me rediscover Self-love.

What you don’t know about me is that part of my struggles of dealing with an eating disorder in my late twenties was a result of Body dysmorphia exacerbated by being immersed in a toxic fitness culture.

You see, after years of working as a Personal Trainer at a big chain gym, I began to see that the fitness industry is built on methods of punishing your body by disciplining it to reach a discriminatory ideal.

My training philosophy as both Trainer and a Runner used to reflect this.

Losing myself in this thinking, I was caught up in a cycle of short-lived happiness and constant self-loathing (not to mention also a crippling binge-purge cycle). I used my running to literally run away from my problems and as a trainer, under the guise of “fitness” I used negative language and habits to promote Body shaming/policing.

But I could not sustain myself this way in the long run (pun intended). As both a professional and an athlete, I had to adopt a more Holistic approach to wellbeing.

Through therapy, journaling (writing love notes to myself) and switching up my running to chase Self-love instead of PB’s, I learned that magic exists in loving yourself—Mind, Body and Soul.

Likewise my training methods evolved to include Mindful movement and Intuitive Eating. This not only helped heal my relationship with food and my Body, but it has allowed me to continue to compete as an ultra runner (who has to date, raced several ultra trail races ranging from 50km to 100km).

Nowadays, I strongly believe that a long-lasting relationship with movement of any kind is built first on a solid foundation of love, which then translates to a sound Mind, Body and Soul.

My goal as Coach and Personal Trainer is getting you to connect all three, so you can show up authentically for what matters most in life – YOU.

KIND WORDS

" I could tell straightway that [Filsan] would be a great fit. I would look forward to our sessions and noticed how much stronger I was getting. I finally felt like I understood what people meant when they said things like ‘I had to go for a run to clear their head’. One of the biggest benefits from our sessions was the stress relief. I was always taught about exercise in terms of weight loss and as a necessary partner to diet. I think it is important to change the narrative around exercise and working out to emphasize the connection to increased wellbeing. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a new personal trainer, especially someone who will simultaneously encourage and challenge you to seek out Filsan."
